PATENTS AND DESIGNS
Are you interested in assessing if an invention is patentable, if an existing patent is being infringed, or are you interested in technological developments in a particular field?
We conduct searches of patent registers to identify similar inventions to your own or in technology areas of interest to you. This searching can be narrowly focused or broadly designed, depending on your specific needs. Reports may include copies of patents and a plain-English analysis.
Search types
There are four main types of searches.
Novelty or patentability searches are typically conducted by those that believe they have an invention that may be patentable. The search will seek to identify any prior art that a patent attorney can compare the invention with to assess if it is novel.
Validity searches generally start with an existing patent (or parents) and look for prior art that may impact the validity of claims in that patent (or patents).
Infringement searches start with a product and seek to identify any patents that may be in existence that that product would (or may) infringe.
Landscape searches are broad searches that may be used to identify what research work is being done in a particular technology, and who is conducting it. Such searches may assist decisions about that directions R&D should take.
